The Barstow School is offering an exclusive project-based artificial intelligence program at the Dan & Cassidy Towriss IDEA Space this summer, developed and taught by Stanford and MIT graduates.
For nine sessions June 16-27, students in grades 8-12 will learn fundamental AI concepts and gain a deeper understanding of how it is used to build ChatGPT and generative AI, power self-driving cars and more. This exclusive opportunity is offered through Inspirit AI, an organization that “prepares students to leverage technology to solve real-world problems and make a positive impact on the world.” This is a pre-college enrichment program that exposes curious high school students to AI through intensive, in-person classes. The program is taught exclusively by leading university alumni and graduate students specializing in AI.
Participants will learn to program AI using Python, discuss ethics and bias, and complete a group project applying AI to a discipline like healthcare, astronomy, finance, among others. No prior computer science experience is required.
“Artificial intelligence is the defining technology of our times: in our voice-activated devices, smartphone face recognition systems, autonomous vehicles, and now in generative AI like ChatGPT. The potential for all students with diverse interests to apply this technology for good is limitless,” Scott Daniel, computer science teacher and Vice President Technology, says.
If you are interested in participating in this unique opportunity, please fill out this short interest form. The program provides 31.5 hours of hands-on learning with AI practitioners. This brochure offers more detailed information about the program, offered exclusively to Barstow students before being offered to students throughout the metro. If you have questions about the Inspirit AI program, contact Scott Daniel for more information.
