Students Launch Algebra Learning With STEAM

Students expand the way they learn about core subjects by incorporating  STEAM activities at IDEA Space.
For example, high school algebra students used formulas they learned in class to design and built catapults capable of launching small objects at predetermined angles. Students then measure the distance of each launch and plot the results on a graph, for a memorable way to see how math concepts are used in real life.

Seventh grade creative writing students listened to radio plays from the 1930s, and recorded their own versions utilizing the Technology Lab. Working in groups, they added voices, accents and sound effects to their own original scripts. Sixth grade students are using all the available equipment and technology at IDEA Space for a project aimed at repurposing items from trash to environmentally-sound products, including textile redesign and obsolete equipment deconstruction and recycling.
